Charity Trustee Opportunities

We need your help!

Oak Hill ASD Childcare is managed by volunteer Charity Trustees, and we need more trustees

If you have a few hours a month available and you're keen to make a difference to young people Autistic people with complex needs and their families, please get in touch!

Oak Hill ASD Childcare provides childcare for young Autistic people with complex needs requiring a high ratio of specially trained staff during the school holidays. Going into our third year we want to increase the number of Trustees at the charity so we can continue to provide a much-needed service.

Typically, trustees don’t work in the club or directly with the children and young people in our club but we are responsible for managing and governing the club and the charity that makes it possible to run the club.

We're looking for organised, focused people to join our passionate Board of Trustees to help provide this vitally important service. If you'd like to know more or have any questions, please get in touch.

We are looking for trustees with any of the following:

  • Skills such as administration, organisation, communication, legal, financial, management, childcare and so on - all of which are necessary to understand some of the complex decisions to be taken and to move the club forward.

  • 'Soft’ skills such as team working, problem-solving, asking difficult questions, drive, decision making and, supporting and encouraging one another.

  • Different experiences and perspectives, diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

  • Values - trustees have an important duty and all should be able to demonstrate basic values such as honesty and integrity.

What difference will you make?

  • Leading and governing the charity - helping to decide things that matter.

  • Support your community - ensure the services the charity provides meet the needs of the people they are serving.

  • You can put your skills and experience to good use, to benefit your community or to provide better services for people who need them.

  • You can learn new skills and new confidence in a whole range of areas - from finance to management to team working and decision-making, different from your previous experience.

Among other things, this is the kind of things we do - and the kind of thing we need help with:

  • Planning - we plan for the future of the charity and childcare club

  • Fundraising - we make applications, monitor the funds and report back on the use of funds

  • Accounting - we track all the money in and all the money out of the club, keeping the books up to date at all times

  • Care Inspectorate Wales - we make sure we meet all the CIW requirements in order to be able to offer childcare services

  • The Charity Commission - we make sure we do everything required of us by the charity commission so we can keep the charity running - without the charity, the club can’t run

  • Recruitment - we write job descriptions, adverts, and application forms, shortlist applicants, and interview applicants

  • Organising staff - when new staff are recruited we complete all the necessary checks and references and organise the training everyone needs, helping the Club Manager to organise the staff rota’s, tracking the hours worked, completing the payroll when the club is open, providing references for staff who have moved on

  • Liaise with parents - we let parents know when the club will be open, manage applications for placements, and bookings for when the club will open, answer queries, and keep everyone up to date

  • Communications - managing and updating the website, and social media, and monitoring the inboxes
