Welcome to Oak Hill ASD Childcare

We are a group of volunteers who have experience in either working with, living with, or caring for children with ASD. We know there are very few if any, childcare provisions in Newport able to support the needs of children with ASD and associated difficulties.

We created Oak Hill ASD Childcare as an incorporated charity and our mission is to offer childcare for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); ASD is a developmental disorder that affects the way a child communicates and behaves. It has associated difficulties such as communication delays, sensory needs, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, etc.

Oak Hill ASD child care is a charity organisation that runs for the public benefit to advance the education, provide for the recreation and care of children with additional and complex needs within the Newport local authority area by making services and facilities available to them during school holidays.

With the assistance of Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Club , we secured a grant to run a heavily subsidised pilot childcare service based in the Ysgol Bryn Derw school building for the October 2020 half term.

The pilot was successful, and so we applied to be a registered childcare provider with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) to become a registered childcare provider.

Running the service in October and February proved really popular so when our CIW registration came through, we had no hesitation in opening it during the Easter 2021 school holidays and making long term plans for running through the school holidays for the rest of the year and in years to come.

We currently run for 2 weeks during Easter, 4 weeks during Summer and 1 week during October.
